Coaching vs. Therapy

Choosing the right kind of support is important. Coaching and therapy can complement one another, but they are not the same. This page explains the difference so you can decide what’s the best fit for you right now.

Coaching vs. Therapy

  • What Is Therapy?

Therapy (counseling or psychotherapy) is a clinical mental health service provided by a licensed professional. It focuses on emotional health, mental health concerns, and healing past or present psychological difficulties.
    Therapy May Include:
Working through anxiety, depression, trauma, or emotional distress

Healing family wounds and relationship conflicts

Exploring past experiences that affect how you feel and act now

Improving emotional regulation and coping skills

Supporting couples and families in communication and connection

*Therapy is provided only to clients located in states where I am licensed and follows all state laws and professional ethical guidelines.

  • What Is Coaching?

Coaching is a non-clinical, goal-focused service that supports personal growth, clarity, and accountability. Coaching does not diagnose, treat, or manage mental health conditions.
    Coaching May Include:

Clarifying your values and life direction

    Setting realistic, meaningful goals

    Breaking goals into practical steps

    Building confidence, motivation, and follow-through

Creating habits that support the life you want

*Coaching is not mental health therapy and is not a substitute for treatment of trauma, emotional distress, or mental health disorders.

Which Option Is Right for You?

Therapy may be the best fit if you’re seeking emotional healing, support with mental health concerns, or work on deep family and relationship patterns.
Coaching may be the best fit if you’re focused on goals, direction, and building a life that aligns with your values and priorities.

If you’re not sure, we can talk it through together.
